The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Stephen Ballado-Manu has revealed that since the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo rolled out the Free Senior Secondary School (Free SHS) policy, a number of the youth who engaged in dangerous hawking on the street have dwindled.
According to the former MP, areas like Opebia, Kawuokudi and 37 along the Central Business Districts of Accra are almost dead because of the policy.
The youth are no more flocking the streets in the Central Business District to sell ‘dog chains’ among others on the street he said.
The youth have been enrolled into the policy to have the opportunity to continue with their education he explained
Before the introduction of the Free SHS policy, the youth were falling over each other on the streets, risking their lives for pittance from the sale of ‘Dog Chains’ he said.
The former MP gave this twist to the introduction of the Free SHS policy, when he appeared as a member of the communications team of the governing New Patriotic Party on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show on Happy FM hosted by Kwame Afrifa Mensah.
He said aside the introduction of the Free SHS policy; the president has promised more jobs in the 2018 budget to be read on Wednesday November 16, by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
