The Koforidua Circuit Court B has granted bail to 14 individuals who were arrested for engaging in illegal mining locally known as galamsey at Akyem Muoso in the Eastern Region.

Each suspect was granted bail set at GH¢350,000, with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with movable property.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command conducted the arrests on May 15, 2025, and the suspects were arraigned the following day.

Among those detained was Zuberu Nuhoho, from whom police retrieved a pump-action gun.

He reportedly failed to produce documentation for the weapon. Authorities also recovered two excavator control boards from the site.

The suspects are scheduled to reappear in court as investigations continue. The case forms part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining in the region.
