GCB Bank, Ghana’s number one bank, has signed a strategic partnership with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Ghana to strengthen athlete development, support grassroots sports and promote the Olympic and Commonwealth movements in the country.

The agreement was announced in Glasgow, Scotland, and marks a significant step in the GOC/CGA’s efforts to deepen collaboration with the private sector.

It comes as Team Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, running from 23 July to 2 August, and begins its journey towards the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Under the partnership, GCB Bank will support key GOC/CGA initiatives, including:
– Athlete preparation
– Capacity building for sports administrators
– Grassroots sports development
– Promotional activities aimed at expanding participation and raising the profile of Olympic and Commonwealth sports across the country

GOC/CGA President Richard Akpokavie Esq. described the partnership as a major boost to the Committee’s vision of building a sustainable and competitive sporting ecosystem.

“This partnership comes at a critical time as we prepare Team Ghana for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and lay a strong foundation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. GCB Bank’s support demonstrates confidence in our vision and will contribute meaningfully to athlete preparation, the development of our sports structures and the promotion of the values of excellence, friendship and respect that define the Olympic Movement,” he said.

GCB Bank’s Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer, Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, said the partnership reflects the Bank’s commitment to investing in initiatives that create lasting value for communities and contribute to national development.

“At GCB Bank, we believe sport has the power to inspire excellence, unite communities and unlock opportunities for young people. Our partnership with the Ghana Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association Ghana reflects our commitment to supporting platforms that nurture talent, promote national pride and empower athletes to compete successfully on the international stage. We are delighted to partner with the GOC/CGA in advancing sports,” she said.

The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for athletes while strengthening collaboration between Ghana’s sports and financial sectors to support the long-term growth of sport in the country.
