The General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Citizen Ato Dadzie, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his yet-to-be-launched Feed Ghana initiative.

The program is scheduled to be officially launched on April 12, 2025, in Techiman, located in the Bono East Region.

Speaking on the Epa Hoa Daben show with host Bismark Brown, popularly known as BB, on Happy 98.9 FM, Mr. Dadzie praised the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction for Ghana’s agricultural sector.

He noted that the previous government’s Planting for Food and Jobs policy was a commendable move which he fully supported, and expressed his backing for any similar program aimed at boosting food production and ensuring food security.

“It is troubling to see a country like Ghana, blessed with fertile lands, now relying on imports from countries like Burkina Faso and Niger for food,” he lamented.

However, Mr. Dadzie also raised concern about the sustainability of the initiative, especially regarding access to water for irrigation. He questioned how the government intends to irrigate crops, considering the devastating impact of illegal mining (galamsey), which has polluted many water bodies and rendered vast farmlands unusable due to chemical contamination.

He therefore urged the government to put robust plans in place to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the Feed Ghana program.
