The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all Basic and Senior High Schools in the Volta Region to actively participate in a Regional Clean-Up Exercise scheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The directive follows a request from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), which is spearheading the exercise as part of the Government’s Reset Agenda.
The initiative is also in anticipation of increased rainfall this year and aims to mitigate flooding and mosquito breeding risks.
In a statement signed by the Volta Regional Director of Education, Mr. Francis Yaw Agbemadi, the clean-up exercise will focus on desilting drains, clearing overgrown vegetation, and cleaning public spaces, particularly within and around school environments.
“All heads of Basic Schools and Senior High Schools are kindly directed to mobilize students and ensure their active participation in this important civic exercise,” the statement said.
The GES also emphasized the need for schools to ensure that students are well-supervised and that all necessary safety protocols are observed during the activity.
The initiative underscores the collaborative effort between educational institutions and disaster management authorities in promoting environmental hygiene and public health ahead of the rainy season.
