The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong caution to heads of Senior High Schools and Technical Schools over the unauthorised registration of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service, GES Management expressed concern that some school heads are illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, in some cases in exchange for fees.
GES Management stressed that only Form Three students are eligible to be registered for the examination by school authorities. According to the Service, such students must have verifiable academic records and a traceable progression from Year One to Year Three in the school’s database.
The registration of Form Two students or private candidates by any school official, GES noted, is strictly prohibited.
The Service described the unauthorised registration of candidates and the collection of money for such purposes as misconduct and an abuse of office.
GES has therefore warned that any head or school official found to have breached this directive will face severe sanctions in line with the regulations of both the Ghana Education Service and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), without exception.
