The 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament will now take place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, following a directive to safeguard the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Pitch maintenance consultants Green Grass Technology advised that the capital’s stadium, which is currently the only CAF/FIFA-approved venue in the country, should be reserved solely for the Black Stars’ qualifier against Chad on September 8. The recommendation was made to the National Sports Authority after a routine post-match pitch inspection conducted following the Homowo Cup final on August 17.

The Black Stars are expected to begin camping in Accra on August 31 before traveling to Chad for their away fixture on September 4. With the team scheduled to use the Accra Sports Stadium upon return, Green Grass Technology warned that staging the Ghalca Top 4 so close to the national team’s activities could affect the pitch’s recovery.

As a result, the preseason competition, which precedes the start of the Ghana Premier League involving Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Heart of Lions and Bibiani Gold Stars , will now kick off on Wednesday, August 20, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
