President John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate appeal to the people of Bawku and other conflict-prone areas to embrace peace and unity for the sake of future generations.

Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration, he called on all Ghanaians to rise above division, break the cycle of conflict, and build a future rooted in reconciliation.

“In the spirit of unity and brotherhood that this independence represents, I wish to speak directly to you, my brothers and sisters, in Bawku and everywhere in our land where conflict persists. said.

“I do not speak as president, but as your son and brother, in whose hands you have entrusted a solemn duty,” he said.

President Mahama stressed that it was time for lasting peace to prevail.

“Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their dreams are nurtured, not where their nightmares are relived.

They deserve to inherit a land where our markets are bustling with trade, not tension and conflict. They deserve to inherit schools that echo with learning, not melancholy,” he stressed.

Acknowledging the pain and grievances of the past, he urged warring factions to let go of mistrust and choose a path of renewal.

He urged them to rise above division, mistrust, and past grievances, encouraging them to embrace reconciliation and give peace and friendship a chance.

However, he clarified that his appeal was not a call to erase history but to rise above it.

“This is not an invitation to simply forget the past—far from it.

“It is an invitation to live above,” he noted.
