The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a firm warning to the public particularly bloggers, journalists, and content creators to refrain from spreading misinformation that could jeopardize ongoing peace-building efforts in Bawku and its surrounding communities.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 31, 2025, GAF expressed concern over the circulation of outdated military footage and misleading narratives being presented as current events. The military warned that such content undermines public trust and disrupts stability in the conflict-prone area.

“The Armed Forces wishes to appeal to all individuals, including bloggers, content creators and media personnel, to refrain from posting previous military footage and linking them to current operations—an act that constitutes disinformation and mal-information,” the statement said.
“Such behaviour undermines peace efforts and fuels unnecessary tension.”

According to GAF, intensified military operations were launched on Tuesday, July 29, involving both ground and aerial units to address ongoing violence and restore calm in Bawku and neighbouring areas.

As part of the renewed operations, curfew hours have been revised from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., with residents strongly advised to comply fully with the new restrictions and cooperate with security personnel.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed its commitment to restoring long-term peace in Bawku and surrounding towns, including Nalerigu, stating that stability in the region is vital for national security.

The military also called on local leaders, civil society actors, and the media to support its mission and help foster a peaceful environment.

The statement follows renewed clashes and tensions linked to the decades-old conflict in the Bawku area. GAF stressed that the spread of false or sensationalized information only serves to inflame tensions and delay peace efforts.

“The Ghana Armed Forces remains fully committed to its mission to restore peace and stability in Bawku, Nalerigu and surrounding towns, and calls on all stakeholders to support and collaborate towards its successful accomplishment,” the statement concluded.
