The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has repatriated 925 illegal immigrants who were arrested for engaging in begging on the streets of Accra.
GIS has assured the public that efforts are underway to process the remaining detainees.
The operation, which began on May 17, 2025, is temporarily paused to prevent overcrowding at the GIS Holding Centre.
In the meantime, detainees are being provided with meals and medical care, ensuring humane treatment throughout the process.
The GIS emphasized its commitment to professionalism and human rights, expressing gratitude to stakeholders, including the media and the general public, for their support.
As Ghana’s primary agency for migration management and border security, the GIS reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining fair and firm immigration policies.
Authorities have indicated that the special operation will resume soon as part of broader efforts to remove street beggars and combat criminal networks.
