Ghana’s Female Volleyball team, has secured qualification to the Commonwealth Games after winning the just ended Commonwealth Games Africa qualifier.

The Black Spikers defeated Mauritius 2-1 at the Laboma Beach Resort in the Women’s final to book their ticket.
The team faced stiffer opposition from their counterparts in the qualifiers.

Nine Countries from the continent took part in the competition from 24-28 March 2022 at Laboma Beach Resort, Accra
The team won all their games in the all-play round.

Ghana defeated Gambia and Nigeria in the first round to progress to the second round.

In the second round, the Black Spikers eased past Seychelles 2-1 and booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals.

The team defeated South Africa, Kenya in the Quarter-final and semi-final respectively to book a place in the final.
In the final game, Ghana clashed with Mauritius and was able to secure qualification with a 2-1 win.
Speaking to Happy FM after securing qualification, Rashaka Katadat and Juliana Orcherewa of Team Ghana’s Women’s Volleyball team appealed to cooperative bodies and the government for support.

“We’re pleading with cooperating bodies to come to our aid and support us because we need intensive training ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
“As you can see, the teams we played most of them have been to international tournaments but we’re able to beat them so hopefully if we get support from government, cooperate bodies and our leaders trust me we can do well in the games”.

Some Countries to have participated in the Commonwealth Games Africa Qualification include Zambia, Mauritius, South Africa, Rwanda, Seychelles, Kenya, Gambia, Nigeria and Ghana.

The Commonwealth Games is expected to start from Thursday, July 28th, 2022 – Monday August 8, 2020 Birmingham
