The Executive Director of the Institute for Community Sustainability, Eric Jerry Aidoo, has called on Ghana to unlock the potential of its inland waterways as a practical solution to the country’s transportation challenges.
He emphasized that utilizing lakes such as Lake Volta and coastal routes could ease pressure on road networks, reduce traffic congestion, and foster cleaner, more affordable travel options.
In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah Danquah on Happy 98.9 FM’s morning show, ICS is advocating for passenger boat services linking towns like Tema, James Town, Winneba, Cape Coast, and Takoradi, water transport as an eco-friendly alternative for students, workers, and event attendees, job creation through maritime infrastructure development and enhanced regional connectivity across Ghana’s diverse communities.
According to Mr. Aidoo, this approach aligns with long-term sustainability goals and offers a strategic path forward to modernize Ghana’s transport system.
