Ghanaian track and field athlete Doris Quainoo delivered a standout performance at the Jarvis City Invite (also known as the Jarvis Scott Invitational) in Lubbock, Texas, over the weekend of February 13-14, 2026, showcasing her steady improvement and competitive spirit in the women’s 60m hurdles.

Representing the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls, the junior from Gomoa Dawurampong, Ghana, progressed impressively through each round of the event. In the preliminaries, Quainoo placed ninth with a time of 8.55 seconds. She bounced back strongly in the semifinals, securing third place and clocking 8.31 seconds, a clear step forward. The final proved to be her breakthrough moment: Quainoo surged to second place overall, crossing the line in a new personal best of 8.23 seconds.

The consistent drops in her times highlighted her ability to build momentum under pressure and refine her technique mid-competition.

Quainoo’s achievement added a bright spot to an already strong showing for the USF track and field program, which set three new program records and claimed multiple podium finishes across the two-day meet.

On the men’s side, Markel Jones dominated the 60m hurdles, winning the final in 7.67 seconds after strong prelim (7.77) and semi (7.71) runs. Nathan Metelus broke the program record in the 200m with 20.66 seconds (finishing second overall), while Karim Belmahdi set a new mark in the 800m at 1:49.6. The men’s 4x400m relay team, featuring Devontie Archer, Metelus, Alexavier Monfries, and Jones, stormed to first place and another program record with 3:03.82.

Other notable results included Mercy Angaamchaab’s second-place finish in the women’s 800m (2:10.24), and solid contributions across sprints, field events, and relays that underscored the Bulls’ depth and rising form this indoor season.

The performance comes amid USF’s recent success, including back-to-back American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in 2024 and 2025, plus the 2024 AAC Outdoor title. The program has produced numerous All-Americans and continues to build under head coach Erik Jenkins.

For Quainoo, a hurdles specialist who has represented Ghana internationally and previously competed at the collegiate level before transferring to USF, this PB in the 60m hurdles marks another step in her development as she balances academic pursuits with elite athletics.

The Bulls now turn their attention to the Tampa Classic on February 21 to kick off the outdoor season, followed by the American Indoor Championships from February 26-28 in Birmingham, Alabama. With momentum like this, USF and Quainoo, look poised for more breakthroughs ahead.
