GIBA swears in new Executive Council

The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has sworn in its new Executive Council to carry on the mandate of the Association.

The event which took place at GIBA’s office on Thursday, October 14, 2021, was attended by high-profile personalities and stakeholders in the Ghanaian media space.

The immediate past President of GIBA, Andrew Danso-Aninkora, delivering his farewell speech mentioned it was time to give room for a new era to carry the Association’s mantle. 

Having been President from 2017 to 2020 with his mandate seeing an extension to 2021, he acknowledged that his team went through numerous phases but never allowed that to stop them.

He highlighted their achievements over the period he led the Association.
“GIBA and its stakeholders organized workshops to increase the capacity of its members. We organized capacity-building exercises in Accra and Kumasi.”

Andrew Danso-Aninkora also recalled a training program organized in collaboration with the Star Ghana Foundation on investigative journalism on the free movement and migration in the sub-region. While educating the public on ECOWAS protocols on the free movement of persons.

The newly sworn-in President of GIBA, Cecil Thomas Nee Lantey Sunkwa-Mills (Consultant, GOtv Ghana Limited) described GIBA as an Association “which has gone a long way, and now it is my duty and that of my council to take it to a new level.”

According to him, the new GIBA council will focus on having a conversation around ethical issues around broadcasting. “We will also support and enhance local content and multilingualism and promote cyber security for stations to ensure business continuity.”

The new GIBA President will be supported by his able vice Ernest Boateng (e.TV Ghana).

Other members serving in the 2021-2024 Executive Council are Abdulai Awudu, Matthew Martin Anderson, Kwabena Amponsah, Kwame Adu-Mante, Prince Hari Crystal.

The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) is an association of authorized and operational non-state-owned, private, and independent broadcasting organizations formed to promote members’ common interest. GIBA additionally enhances the utilization of her and members’ resources to make a positive contribution to Ghanaian society.
