Commercial transport operators have called for a clearer demonstration of commitment by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza to improving road network and accessibility in Ghana.

The group’s plea follows a detailed presentation of the progress made so far by the Minister at the latest edition of the Government Accountability series which was held on Wednesday morning at the office of the President.

The Commercial Transport Operators in a statement issued on Thursday August 31, acknowledged the presentation but raised concern over the existing poor state of roads and its effect on their operations and means of living. “The state of our roads is a perennial issue that affects our operations and livelihoods. We expect tangible results, not just promises or Media engagement ”

The group outlined a number of actions in the statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the CTO, Asonaba Nana Wiredu that the Minister is expected to take to aid in abating the struggles of road users and enhancing road network in Ghana. These actions which include tangible results, accountability and stakeholder engagement are proposed as immediate steps to be taken by the ministry.

Commercial transport operators have acknowledged the potential for partnership with the Ministry of Roads and Highways but emphasized their priority on tangible results over assurances. “We urge the Honourable Minister for Roads and Highways to take our concerns seriously and to demonstrate a clear commitment to improving the road network,” they stated. “While we are open to collaboration in achieving this objective, we will not accept rhetoric without corresponding action.”
