The Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the government has committed $800,000 in support of the organisation of the novelty competition which is scheduled to commence on February 26 involving 64 teams.

The winners of the two-tier competitions will share a total of GH¢350,000 in prize money.

Out of that amount, winners for the Tier One of the competition would go home with GH¢200,000 to be shared equally between the club and players, while the Tier Two champion will be GH¢150,000 richer also to be shared equally between the players and the club.

Giving details of the competition, the spokesperson of the Normalisation Committee, Mr Dan Kweku Yeboah, told the Daily Graphic that the competition would run for three months and feature 64 teams consisting of 16 Premier League clubs and 48 Division One League clubs.

Yesterday the Normalisation Committee met with representatives of the Premier League and Division One clubs at the GFA secretariat in Accra to explain the modalities of the competition being organised to keep the clubs busy following the suspension of organised leagues in Ghana seven months ago in the aftermath of an exposé on massive corruption in the administration of the game.

Participants in the novelty competition will engage in a knockout with the aggregate winners forming Tier One with the losers forming Tier Two.

Subsequently, eight groups of four teams each would be formed from each tier, with winners of Tier One automatically advancing to the quarter-finals while the runners-up would be on standby to play winners in Tier Two.

Participating clubs would be paid GH¢20,000 each for the group games and those who would qualify to the Round of 16 would earn GH¢40,000 for both tiers.

Clubs that make it to the quarter-final will get GH¢50,000 for the Tier One and GH¢40,000 for Tier Two teams, while GH¢100,000 will be paid to Tier One clubs that get to the semi-final and GH¢50,000 for Tier Two clubs.
