The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.

In a statement issued and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Minister said the decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and effected through an Executive Instrument. The revised curfew will now run from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective immediately.

The government has called on Chiefs, Elders, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint amid the ongoing security challenges.

The statement urged the people to adopt non-violent means in addressing grievances and to work collectively towards restoring and sustaining peace in the area.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has imposed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons within Bawku Municipality and its environs.

The statement also prohibits the riding of motorbikes in affected areas.

According to the Minister, any person found in possession of arms or ammunition in violation of the directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
