The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has secured 120 employment opportunities for Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and anti-foreigner sentiments in the country.
The jobs have been offered by Ghanaian business owners as part of efforts to support the reintegration of returning citizens into society.
In a public appeal issued on Monday, June 1, the Ministry called on more Ghanaian chief executive officers and entrepreneurs to join the initiative by providing employment opportunities for the evacuees.
“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry indicated that the initiative is being coordinated by its Delivery Unit, headed by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, which has established a dedicated contact line for prospective employers.
“So far, we have secured 120 job opportunities from patriotic Ghanaian business owners. Be part of this noble project,” the statement added.
The employment drive forms part of broader government efforts to assist Ghanaians affected by the recent wave of xenophobic violence in South Africa, which has forced many citizens to return home.
About 300 Ghanaians have so far been evacuated from South Africa.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians living abroad, stressing that measures are being implemented to ensure the safety, dignity and successful reintegration of all evacuees.
