The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu-Antwi, has revealed that government is finalizing plans to construct at least two cattle ranches in the region to curb the recurring clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
He explained that Bono East is one of the regions most affected by uncontrolled cattle grazing, largely due to its vegetation and strategic location. According to the Minister, stray cattle continue to destroy farmlands, threatening food security and heightening tensions between farmers and livestock owners.
“The situation is not only affecting crops but also endangering the animals themselves,” he said.
Speaking to the media after swearing in newly elected Assembly Members of the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly, Owusu-Antwi confirmed that vast land has already been secured in Kintampo, and preliminary discussions with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture have been concluded.
He assured the public that the project will commence in the coming weeks as part of broader efforts to foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists.
Health Sector Appeal
The Minister used the opportunity to commend members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) for calling off their two-week nationwide strike.
“I urge our health professionals to always use dialogue and negotiation in addressing grievances. Strike actions have dire consequences, including loss of lives, and must be a last resort,” he emphasized.
Owusu-Antwi expressed hope that government-worker relations in the health sector will continue to improve through ongoing engagement and mutual respect.
