Gov’t to implement industry-specific interventions to support private sector growth – Deputy Finance Minister-Designate

Deputy Finance Minister-Designate and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has emphasized the need for industry-specific interventions to foster private sector growth and job creation in Ghana.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, Mr. Ampem highlighted that a one-size-fits-all approach would not be effective in addressing the diverse needs of businesses in the country.

Instead, he stressed the importance of tailored policies to support different sectors of the economy.

“We do not have a one-size-fit-for-all policy or intervention for every aspect of the private sector. We need specific interventions for various industries.

For instance, in agriculture, we should have targeted support measures. We will collaborate with the Minister of Agriculture to determine what can be done,” he stated.

Beyond sector-specific policies, the Deputy Minister-Designate also underscored the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability, ensuring predictable inflation, and providing critical infrastructure such as stable electricity to support private sector operations.

“If I am given the opportunity, I will advise my minister on measures that will create a more business-friendly environment, including ensuring stable power supply and other necessary infrastructure that can help industries thrive,” he added.

Mr. Ampem assured the Committee that, if approved, he would work closely with the Finance Minister to implement policies that will drive private sector growth and create jobs in the country.
