Event organizers nationwide and tourism stakeholders have been sensitized by National Security on strict security at all events this festive season for a successful tourism experience in Ghana.

The engagement which was held today, Tuesday December 7, 2023 at the Accra Tourism Information Centre, hosted a variety of tourism stakeholders and organizers across Ghana and beyond to deliberate on the best measures to ensure safety across the country.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman delivering a welcome address noted that the nature of activities lined up need strict security measures and order.

He highlighted that the engagement although hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority was called for by National Security which he commended for raising the need for security at events especially within the festive season.

Event organizers were sensitized by officials of National Security on possible security threats to Ghana especially during the festive season. The vulnerabilities of event centres such as multiple entrances and exits, access to parking with little or no screening, access by suppliers, vendors and maintenance workers among others were displayed to show how many outlets provide terrorists with enough room to breach security. “Terrosists target events and events centres because they see these places with easy access they attack these places; we are not in normal times and this is not to scare anyone but there are a lot of possible threats especially at these events.”

Other notable guests that were present at the sensitization session were Head of Corporate Affairs for the Ghana Tourism Authority; Rev. Jones Haruna Nelson and Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs; Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, Community Liaison Officer for the Beyond The Return Secretariat; Socrate Sarfo.

With a focused goal to keep Ghana as a tourism destination globally, National Security and the Ghana Tourism Authority encourage all event organizers to make this festive season a memorable one for patrons with security as a priority before, during and after events nationwide.
