The initiative by Happy FM and UT Bank to save lives yielded fruits over the weekend when over 250 pints of blood was collected to boost the stock of blood in the blood banks of both Korle Bu Teaching and the 37 Military Hospitals during the annual Happy FM Blood Donation Exercise.
Held at the premises of UT Bank at airport city, over 300 people volunteered to donate their blood out of which 250 pints was collected while the other volunteers were diagnosed as not medically fit to donate by medical practitioners.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Programmes Manager of Happy FM, Kwasi Sarpong, said, “the rains, unfortunately, prevented us from meeting our target of 700-1000 but we are still happy many people showed interest by coming around to donate,’’ adding that “we believe what we have collected today will definitely go a long way to saving some lives.’’
On his part, the Corporate Affairs and Marketing of UT Bank, Ms. Susan Yorke, stated that “we are very glad this event came off successfully and some lives will be saved through today’s blood donation.’’ She attributed the low patronage of this year’s event to the weather and the heavy rains. She stressed that UT Bank will continue to partner Happy FM to make it better next year for everyone.
The blood donation exercise lasted for about 6 hours from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Activities included background checks, free screening and health checks for participants by qualified medical professionals from KBTH and 37.
The Blood donation exercise was sponsored by Cowbell, Cofiegold clothing, All Faith Medical Centre, Acrecity Medics.
