An old adage says, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime, and the latter is exactly what host of Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has done.

With the empowerment agenda on the desk of the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ team, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has acquired a brand new sewing machine to support the tailoring business of an ardent listener of the show and has also secured jobs for others in the process.

The beneficiary, known as General Blay received the sewing machine today after it was promised to him by Kwame Afrifa last week when he (Blay) started sewing face masks to aid in the fight against COVID-19.

Host, Afrifa-Mensah being moved by General Blay’s efforts to survive rather than beg for alms during the lockdown period pushed him to show this kind gesture. “The relief items we can give is to help other citizens find stability for life. It is part of our work to empower people to take charge of their lives rather than giving them fish to eat”, Afrifa said.

General Blay appreciative of the gesture also promised to train 5 listeners of the show to create a ripple effect.

A Businessman, Issaka Ibrahim, another listener of the show from whom the sewing machine was bought also promised to train 5 people interested in learning the craft of repairing sewing machines.

Presenting the sewing machine to General Blay was Programmes Manager of Happy98.9FM, Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah who said, “Just as Afrifa has promised, we will champion the cause to provide at least 15 people with employment per week via the Epa Hoa Daben show. And this will create a ripple effect creating more jobs in the country”.

He also entreated all listeners with jobs available or those who want to train other people in a trade or craft to contact the station for the benefit of others and society.
