The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced that the 40th edition of the National Farmers’ Day will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region.

This annual event highlights the significant contributions of farmers and fishermen to Ghana’s economy and food security.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” underscores the nation’s focus on adopting agricultural practices that address the growing challenges posed by climate change.

In a statement the Ministry noted that as part of activities leading up to Farmers’ Day, Agrifest Ghana 2024, a five-day National Agricultural Fair, will be held from November 4 to November 8. This fair will not only showcase Ghana’s agricultural achievements but also provide a platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, bringing together farmers and stakeholders from across the country.

The celebration will conclude with a National Awards Night on November 8, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will recognize outstanding farmers in 16 categories. Among the key awards are the Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer, highlighting the pivotal role of farmers in driving the agricultural sector.

National Farmers’ Day will also serve as an opportunity to promote dialogue and encourage farmers to adopt sustainable practices in response to environmental changes. This year, the event has been moved from its traditional December date to November to accommodate the 2024 general elections.
