Nana Opoku Kwarteng, father of the late Dancehall/Afrobeat musician Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known by the stage name Ebony Reigns, has disclosed that he didn’t make money from her daughter’s funeral as some people perceived.
Mr Kwarteng was hosted by DJ Advicer on Happy FM’s Ayekoo After Drive Show to discuss the aftermath of Ebony’s funeral and the father has revealed that contrary to what the some media houses are reporting that he accrued a big sum of cash from his daughter’s funeral was a mirage as he rather run at a loss.
“There was no profit as people say on Ebony’s funeral. I heard people saying that Nana Addo the current president gave me ¢50,000 but it’s not true, he gave me ¢5,000. They also said Kasapreko gave me ¢90, 000 but the actual money was ¢40,000. I run at a serious loss,” Nana Kwarteng told Happy FM.
When quizzed by DJ Advicer on why he accrued those debt following reports that there so many donors, Nana Kwarteng answered, “There were other things and the fact that you don’t know does not mean I made profit. You can take my words that there were lot of things.”
Ebony died at age 21 in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road while returning to Accra from Sunyani on Thursday, 8 February 2018.
She made history by becoming the first ever Ghanaian female artiste to win the “Artiste of the Year” accolade at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
