Former Ghana International, Augustine Arhinful, has revealed to Happy Sports that he received Ghc 300 as his signing on fee when he joined Obuasi Goldfields, now AshantiGold in 1991 from Soccer Missionaries.

Arhinful was speaking on how motivation can help improve the standard of the Ghana Premier League which has been questioned in recent times.

There has been a talk about the decline in the standard of the Ghana Premier League.

According to former Hearts and Kotoko star, Charles Taylor, the standard of the league has declined in this era due to lack of quality players in the league.

Augustine Arhinful opposed the comments made by Charles Taylor, and stated that the low motivation of players in the league could be a factor.

He mentioned that during his era, he was highly motivated when he played for Obuasi Goldfields.

“I don’t want to say the level in the Ghana Premier League is so down. When I signed for Goldfields my signing on fee was 3,000,000 in 1991.

We were motivated to play. Our winning bonus were paid every Monday after every league game on Sunday”, he told Happy FM.
