Former minister of food and agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has said that of all the resources available, agriculture has the most potential to improve the nation’s fortunes.

He said that if elected as the president, he would offer the necessary resources and draw on the desire of the country’s ever-willing and diligent farmers to ensure that the sector’s potential was realized for the socio-economic growth of the country.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto announcing his bid to lead the NPP in the 2024 election on Monday, March 13, at UPSA in Accra said If elected, the economy and agriculture will be his top concerns.

“I have had the opportunity to visit most of the countries around the world and what I have seen the Ghanaian farmer is as a hardworking person, who will go above and beyond when given even the tiniest incentive. If their willingness and hard work are better exploited, the country and the farmers themselves would benefit immensely.”
“I am appealing to all of us that we go back to the land because it is the land that birthed civilization on earth. And, it is how we use the God-given land that will take us to the status of a first world that we all wish to become. Mr. Chairman, I must reiterate here that Agriculture is the means to our end,” he added.
