The Ministry of the Interior has extended the curfew imposed on Nkwanta Township and nearby communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, acting on the advice of the Oti Regional Security Council.
In a press release dated January 19, 2026, the Ministry announced that the curfew will now be observed from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Monday, January 19, 2026.
The government has appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents to remain calm and use peaceful means to settle disputes in order to restore and maintain lasting peace in the area.
Additionally, the ban on carrying arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in Nkwanta Township and its surrounding areas remains in effect.
The statement cautioned that anyone found in possession of such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
