Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm, has dismissed reports suggesting that all 220 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have thrown their support behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.
Speaking in an interview on Happy Kaseɛbɔ, Darko Quarm clarified that though they have engaged with Dr. Bawumia, there has been no collective endorsement.
“We met with Dr. Bawumia, and he shared his policies and informed us of his intention to contest the flagbearership. But I am not aware of any public statement from our group endorsing him.”
He emphasized that, the former MMDCES have had meetings with three flagbearer hopefuls.
“This is actually the third time we’ve met various aspirants in this race. At no point have we assembled as a group or on our official platforms to declare support for any one candidate. It’s simply not true that all 220 MMDCEs have publicly endorsed Dr. Bawumia.”
Darko Quarm’s comments come amid former Adentan MCE Ebenezer Doku’s press conference suggesting that all 220 MMDCES have endorsed support for former Vice President Dr. Bawumia.
Ebenezer Doku who made the announcement at a press conference in Accra after a meeting with Dr. Bawumia noted…, “our endorsement is not merely symbolic, it is a strategic and operational commitment. We will deploy our experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana”.
“Ken called us, we did not go to him. He gave us his message. He was nice to us, and we all met. We wined, we dined after that, we left. There was no message as we did today. We did not tell him we would give him our support.”
