KIC Women’s Bootcamp trains women in livestock production

Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC), through its Women’s Bootcamp, has extended its agribusiness empowerment efforts to include livestock training for some women in Kadjebi in the Oti Region, reinforcing its commitment to building practical, income-generating skills among rural women.

The training was organised in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, under the Initiative for Youth in Agricultural Transformation (IYAT) program.

The training focused on the basics of livestock production, including small ruminants and poultry, equipping participants with knowledge on animal husbandry, housing, feeding, disease prevention, and business management in livestock farming. The training also emphasized livestock as a reliable and scalable agribusiness opportunity for women looking to enter the agricultural value chain.
“Training women in livestock production is a powerful step toward economic independence and food security,” said Mercy Tuffour, Gender and Safeguarding Specialist, KIC. To support participants beyond the classroom, KIC provided startup kits, including basic inputs and materials to help kickstart their livestock ventures, ensuring the transition from learning to implementation.

Terrence Tienaah, KIC’s Programs Manager noted: “ At KIC, we are intentional about providing the tools, knowledge, and confidence women need to turn skills into viable agribusinesses. With every bootcamp, we create pathways for women to thrive economically, sustainably, and independently, right from their communities.”

The livestock training in Kadjebi adds to a growing list of targeted bootcamp interventions aimed at empowering women with diverse agribusiness skills, including beekeeping, cereal mix production, and snail farming.

Through the Women’s Bootcamp, KIC continues to promote inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation — one skill at a time.
