Kwesi Appiah lifts lid on reasons behind Gyan, Ayew brothers omission from Black Stars friendlies

Head coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah has explained why he dropped Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew from Black Stars squad ahead of Japan and Iceland friendlies in June.
The Ayew brothers have not played for the country since the Black Stars World Cup qualification first leg match against Congo Brazzaville in Kumasi Sports Stadium which ended in a stalemate.
The omission of Jordan Ayew who won the Swansea City Player of the Season especially from the squad comes as a huge surprise to all Ghanaian football enthusiasts after his explosive performance with the Swans despite suffering relegation to the English Championship.
Reports have emerged the brothers have been dropped due to the impasse between the head coach and the brothers.
However, Kwesi Appiah has completely debunked the notion that he failed to invite the Ayew brothers for the country’s upcoming friendlies as a result of his bad relationship.
“There are a lot of players I didn’t invite, and I didn’t do so because they are not performing,” Appiah told SportsworldGhana.com in an interview.
“Players like Asamoah Gyan, Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew are all players who have been tried and tested over the years and Ghanaians and the entire world know what they are capable of doing so I feel this is the perfect opportunity for me to try Emmanuel Boateng and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt in our quest to parade a strong team for our upcoming AFCON qualifying remaining matches.
“This is the only friendly games we have to play before we resume our qualifiers so if you want to try new players then this certainly is the right to do so,” he added.
