Jota died in a car accident early on the morning of July 3, 2025, alongside his brother, Andre Silva. The incident occurred in Spain, and both men were involved in a fatal crash.
The 28-year-old Liverpool forward leaves behind his wife, Rute, whom he married just days earlier on June 22, and their three young children. The club expressed profound sorrow and asked for privacy for the grieving families during this incredibly difficult time.

According to the Guardia Civil in Spain, the crash occurred at approximately 00:30 local time (23:30 BST) on the A-52 highway in Zamora. The Lamborghini they were traveling in suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, crash, and catch fire.
