Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the heartbreaking news of the passing of their team player, Diogo Jota. The club released a statement on their official website confirming the tragic loss.

Jota died in a car accident early on the morning of July 3, 2025, alongside his brother, Andre Silva. The incident occurred in Spain, and both men were involved in a fatal crash.

The 28-year-old Liverpool forward leaves behind his wife, Rute, whom he married just days earlier on June 22, and their three young children. The club expressed profound sorrow and asked for privacy for the grieving families during this incredibly difficult time.

“Liverpool Football Club is devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. We have been informed that the 28-year-old player died following a road traffic accident in Spain, along with his brother Andre.

At this time, Liverpool FC will make no further comments and respectfully request privacy for Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates, and club staff as they come to terms with this unimaginable loss. We will continue to offer our full support to all affected.”

According to the Guardia Civil in Spain, the crash occurred at approximately 00:30 local time (23:30 BST) on the A-52 highway in Zamora. The Lamborghini they were traveling in suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, crash, and catch fire.

Tributes have poured in from across the football community and beyond, honoring the memory of Diogo Jota and expressing sympathy for his family and loved ones.
