Spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on energy, Edward Bawa has revealed that the dumsor experienced under the NDC administration was as a result of low investment made at the energy sector by the Kufuor administration.

According to him, the previous Kufuor administration did not invest much in the energy sector although the economy was growing.

In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy 98.9 FM’s Morning Show, Edward Bawa stated that apart from the low investment in the energy sector, there was also a challenge of legacy debt that accounted for the dumsor crisis the country experienced.

“One of the things that accounted for the legacy debt was subsidy plan by the government for Ghanaians to pay low electricity bills but no plans were made for that money the people had to pay so it became a debt that the NDC inherited”.

He added that, ECG was in debt of about 2.4 billion dollars since Rawlings time.

“In order for the NDC to solve that legacy debt, we introduced energy sector Levy Act to be able to raise funds to clear debts at the energy sector for the next five years but unfortunately, NDC lost power to NPP.
