In just three days, Madagascar has seen a significant transition of power under democratic governance to military rule
Madagascar which has been declared under the leadership of army colonel, Col. Michael Randrianirina after ousting the country’s president has been formalised by swearing in ceremony which took place on Friday at high constitutional court of the country.
His ascent to the presidency came just three days after he announced that the armed forces were taking power in the sprawling Indian Ocean island of around 30 million people off Africa’s east coast.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has condemned the military takeover as an unconstitutional change of government, but there has been little significant reaction from other countries, including Madagascar’s former colonial ruler, France.
