Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to enhance women’s representation in Parliament, district assemblies, and various leadership roles throughout Ghana if he wins the upcoming December elections.

He emphasized that achieving gender equality in leadership is not only a moral imperative but also essential for maximizing Ghana’s human resources.

During the National Democratic Congress (NDC) women’s manifesto launch on September 30, Mr. Mahama outlined his plan to increase women’s representation in leadership positions across all sectors, highlighting that this initiative is crucial for the nation’s progress.

As part of his broader commitment to gender equality, Mahama intends to operationalise the Affirmative Action Act of 2024, which is designed to empower women in political spaces. This legislation aims to ensure that women hold at least 30% of political appointments.

He announced his intention to enact the Property Rights of Spouses Bill, which he describes as vital for protecting women’s rights within marriage. He asserted that in the event of marital disputes, properties such as buildings and farmland should be equitably shared, ensuring that no woman is unjustly evicted without receiving her fair share.
