The Malian government has arrested more than 30 soldiers and military officials accused of crimes against the state, following signs of internal tensions as the West African nation’s leaders take steps to strengthen their hold on power.
News reports confirm, citing two reliable sources, that these soldiers were found culpable of a series of attempts to destabilize the government, with several senior officials implicated in the crime.
A notable figure among those arrested is General Abass Dembele, former governor of the central Mopti region.
Malian security sources have currently put the total number of arrests at 3
