The Executive Director of the Alliance For Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) and the National Coordinator for the West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF), Mensah Thompson, has expressed concern about the low voter turnout observed during the elections.
This trend, he noted, could undermine the representativeness of the election outcomes and warrants immediate attention from stakeholders.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Happyghana.com he expressed that currently, the process has reached the collation stage, with regional centers consolidating and transmitting results to the Electoral Commission (EC) for final processing.
Despite the technical aspects of the process progressing smoothly, with only minor reports of ballot-related issues and isolated clashes, the low voter turnout has emerged as a critical issue. Thompson emphasized that this trend reflects a broader disengagement among voters, which could impact the legitimacy of the election results.
He highlighted the need for a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to voter apathy and called for enhanced efforts to ensure robust participation in future elections. While the collation phase is expected to proceed without major disruptions, the turnout issue remains a significant concern, underscoring the importance of inclusive electoral processes.
