Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has apologized to Parliament’s Appointments Committee clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, for a series of ill-mannered remarks directed at her.

The controversy began during a press conference held last week when Afenyo-Markin accused Gifty Jiagge-Gobah of partisanship.

He alleged that she was acting in favor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the Appointments Committee’s vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30.

The apology followed a suggestion by the Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, urging him to make amends.

Afenyo-Markin apologized to the clerk and all others affected by his conduct over the past week. However, he clarified that his reaction stemmed from what he described as a change in her behavior after being reassigned from the Majority caucus to the Minority caucus in Parliament. “The standard she held in respect of dealings between the Majority and Minority Leader was what perhaps compelled my reaction,” he explained.

He further revealed that he had met with Mrs. Gifty Jiagge-Gobah earlier in the day to resolve any lingering issues, restoring their long-standing formal relationship to peaceful co-existence.
