The Minority Members of Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, have honored the Black Queens with a generous cash donation of GHS 100,000 following their stellar performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The presentation took place in Parliament during a special visit by the national women’s football team, who returned home after securing a historic third-place finish in the tournament.
The Black Queens edged past South Africa in a nerve-racking 4–3 penalty shootout, marking their first WAFCON medal in eight years.
Afenyo-Markin praised the team’s “resilience and brilliance on the pitch,” calling their achievement a turning point for Ghanaian women’s football. The cash reward is part of a growing wave of tributes pouring in from across the country, recognizing the team’s dedication and rekindling hope for future international success.
After missing the 2022 edition and exiting early as hosts in 2018, the Queens’ comeback story has become a national inspiration and this donation is more than a gift; it’s a symbol of support for a new era in Ghanaian sport.
