The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) is scheduled to meet with the National Labour Commission (NLC) today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, to discuss longstanding concerns over poor working conditions.

The meeting comes after years of unresolved grievances raised by MOWAG members, including low wages, inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE), and hazardous working environments issues that have persisted since at least 2019.

MOWAG General Secretary, Richard Kofi Jordan, expressed cautious optimism that the meeting could lead to a consensus with the government and the beginning of concrete steps toward meeting the association’s demands.

He noted that a formal invitation had been extended to key stakeholders, including the Minister of Health, representatives from teaching hospitals, and the Ghana Health Service, to participate in the dialogue.

However, Mr. Jordan also voiced frustration, saying he personally sees the meeting as unnecessary, given that previous engagements with these parties have repeatedly failed to produce meaningful results.
