Nat’l Cathedral will have a living museum – Rev Dr. Joyce Aryee

Member of the Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral, Rev Dr. Joyce Aryee, posits the museum which will be built within the cathedral will be a “living” museum.

Describing the plan for the museum, she indicated it will not be a place for simply holding old artifacts alone.

“We want to build a living museum. A museum is not a place for old artifacts alone, but you can create a living museum and situation for all. Upon entering the museum, you will see LED screens which will educate you on biblical history. Visitors will be educated on how Africa incubated Israel amongst others,” she told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

The highly interactive museum will also educate Ghanaians about the Caribbean missionaries who came ahead of White missionaries and the history behind the translation of the bible into Ghanaian dialects.

Although the construction of the National Cathedral is behind schedule, Rev Dr. Joyce Aryee has argued that the stocking of the museum will put them behind a little bit of time.

The National Cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 as well as the requisite chapels, and a baptistery. The site will also house a music school, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Bible.

The design of the cathedral reflects the art and culture of Ghanaian ethnic groups; the high pitched and staggered roof is reminiscent of Akan inspired architecture and the facade will be concave and decorated with timber in imitation of Ashanti royal stools.
