Member of the legal counsel for former President John Dramani Mahama, Victor Kojogah Adawudu, has expressed his disappointment at lawyer Frank Davis, spokesperson of President Akufo-Addo’s legal team.

To him, Frank Davies’ describing the posture of the NDC lawyers as “rehearsed theatricals” is quite offensive.

Lawyer Frank Davies was addressing the media after court proceedings today when he mentioned that the Supreme Court is not a place for organized, rehearsed and choreographed theatricals, long prose and rather dull English.

Reacting to these comments, Lawyer Adawudu told Sefa-Danquah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show: “Frank Davis is a lawyer. He was the President of the Greater Accra Regional Bar. What he said was unfortunate. What he said shouldn’t come from a senior lawyer like him. He is my mentor and my senior. I respect him. He has fallen in the same trap of the advice he gives”.

According to lawyer Adawudu, lawyers for President Akufo-Addo must focus on “the substance that we have presented” instead of focusing on whose English is better. “They were saying we have no case, and they asked us to go to court and now they are saying it is drama. If we had no case, the case would have been thrown out. Just concentrate on what is in the court. Now you say we are doing drama and literature”.

“As lawyers that is not what we are trained to do. In as much as in court we argue our case, we are friends. In 2013, I was at the other side, now I am on the side of the petitioner. I am sure when he [Lawyer Frank Davies] reflects on what he said, he can make the conclusions on whether what he said was right or not”, he added.

Spokesperson for the President’s Legal team, Frank Davies has told lawyers of the petitioners that the Supreme Court is not the forum for organized, rehearsed and choreographed theatricals and drama.

His comment follows the Supreme Court’s order to the petitioner in the ongoing Presidential Election Petition, John Dramani Mahama, to file his witness statements and arguments in response to the preliminary objection raised by the respondents latest by Wednesday, January 27.

In addressing the media, Lawyer Frank Davis said: “The Supreme Court is a very busy place. The Supreme Court is not the forum for organized, rehearsed and choreographed theatricals or melodrama. It is a place for real hard, and serious legal work.

“It is not for flying of literature and dull English devoid of any legal merit. I want to advise my colleagues from the other side that if it hasn’t been broken, don’t attempt to fix it. We are ready for them on Thursday.”

Former President John Mahama is asking the Supreme Court to order the EC to organize a second election between him and Akufo-Addo because, he believes no candidate won the 2020 presidential election.

According to Mr. Mahama, the EC’s declaration made on the 10th of December was unconstitutional as he claims that no candidate acquired more than fifty per cent of the total valid votes cast, as required by Article 63(3) of the 1992 Constitution.
