WAEC to release 2025 BECE private candidate results today The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the end of today, Friday, September 5. Speaking at a media briefing, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, confirmed the release timeline and shared key statistics. “A total of 1,661 private candidates, 858 males and 803 females, registered for this year’s BECE. This marks a 19.49% increase compared to last year,” he stated. According to John Kapi, the provisional results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23, with 603,328 students participating from 20,395 schools. WAEC noted a 5.99% rise in school candidate numbers. Kapi also addressed examination integrity, saying, “Candidates who infringed on the rules governing the conduct of the examination were appropriately sanctioned following investigations and the advice of the Council’s relevant committee.”

Alhaji Halidu Haruna, a member of the communications team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that President Nana Akufo Addo summoning Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah to an emergency meeting at the Presidency over his decision to strip Asamoah Gyan of the Black Stars captaincy which led to the latter’s retirement from National Team, shows how unserious the president is.

On Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Halidu Haruna said the president should focus on more pressing issues that are bothering the country rather than unnecessary interferences in the country’s football administration.

“The world football governing body, that’s FIFA, frowns on the executive arm of government interfering in matters relating to football in every country but the level at which this NPP government is interfering in on our football is absurd,” he said.

He also opined that, “Nana Addo inviting Coach Kwesi Appiah over captaincy issues in the National team tells us how unserious the president is. Because there are more pressing issues in the country than doing a job that Dr. Kofi Amoah and others in the football fraternity can easily solve. This also tells us that our president focuses on minor issues than major issues. The president is not serious.”

Earlier today, Nana Akufo Addo met with Coach Kwesi Appiah at the Jubilee House. The meeting was centred on the sudden resignation of the captain of the senior national team, Asamoah Gyan which happened on Monday.
