The National Identification Authority (NIA) has dismissed reports suggesting that the Ghana Card can now be used to carry out financial transactions, describing such claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement released and signed by the Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NIA, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, the Authority clarified that the Ghana Card has not been activated for any financial transaction purposes.
The NIA urged the public to disregard the circulating information and rely only on official communications from the Authority regarding the use of the Ghana Card.
The statement further indicated that there are ongoing high-level discussions involving policymakers and key institutions within the financial and regulatory sectors on the possible future integration of the Ghana Card into financial transaction systems.
These engagements form part of broader efforts to enhance the use of digital identity and promote financial inclusion in the country.
However, the Authority stressed that the discussions remain inconclusive as of April 8, 2026.
The NIA assured the public that any official decision or rollout concerning the use of the Ghana Card for financial transactions will be duly communicated through its verified channels.
The Authority emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the integrity, security, and proper use of the National Identification System.
