The leadership of the Public Services Workers Union, representing the National Identification Authority (NIA) division, under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, has temporarily halted their ongoing strike action, which began on June 10, 2024, to allow for negotiations and a possible resolution to the ongoing impasse.

The union’s move to temporarily halt the strike comes as it gears up for a crucial meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) scheduled for Friday, June 14, 2024, aiming to resolve outstanding issues through constructive dialogue and negotiations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 12, the Divisional Executives Council announced that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has pledged to engage in good-faith negotiations, indicating a commitment to constructive dialogue and a willingness to address the union’s concerns in a sincere and meaningful manner.

“It must be noted that the FWSC has assured us of their willingness to act in good faith in our subsequent engagements. However, this gesture will be put to the test on Friday, June 14, 2024. Members are therefore assured that, if at the close of negotiations on Friday, the government fails to demonstrate true faith by granting us Institution Specific Allowances, we would not be hesitant to return to our industrial action; this must be noted,” it added.

The council therefore appealed to its members to report to work today Thursday, June 13, 2024.
