NPP blames unfulfilled promises on inherited bad economy

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has positioned that many of its promises during the 2016 elections have not been fulfilled because of the bad economy it inherited from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.

This follows the recent rating by the NDC on the fulfilment of promises by the ruling Government. The NDC scored the ruling NPP party 14% in the fulfilment of its promises.

Speaking on the issue on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, key member of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, has argued that achieving manifesto promises is based on the economy.

“Achieving your manifesto promises is based on the economy. So it is the economy that could prove if we could achieve or not. This is the essential analysis for us to make. We need to ask how the NDC was able to fund the achievement of their manifesto promises which they presented in 2012. The economy will tell if you can achieve your promises or not”, he told Kwame Afrifa.

He noted that even with an unstable economy from the previous Government, the NPP has been able to implement the Free SHS policy as compared to the opposition NDC which was struggling to maintain teachers and nurses trainee allowance.

“From 2012 to 2016, how was Ghana’s economy? The point I am making is that if the economy is not stable, promises cannot be achieved. Even with the economy we inherited from the NDC, we have been able to implement the Free SHS because the economy allowed it”, he added.

Richard Ahiagbah was insistent that Mahama’s economy was in a bad shape and that has affected the NPP’s ability to fulfil its promises.
