The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed strong disapproval of the recent suspension of three of its Members of Parliament by the Rt. Hon. Speaker on January 31, 2025.

The party views this action as a selective and autocratic move designed to undermine the Minority’s ability to hold the government accountable.

In a statement, the NPP leadership emphasized their unwavering support to their MPs and condemned the Speaker’s decision as a violation of the Constitution and the principles of natural justice.

“The Party sees this selective, and autocratic posture of the Speaker as very dangerous, with all these actions packaged to cower the Minority into submission,” the statement read.

The NPP has called on its members and the public to stand in solidarity with the Minority Caucus, particularly during their press conference on February 3, 2025. The party reiterated its commitment to addressing any form of repression and unfairness in the application of parliamentary rules.

“We fully support the press conference of the Minority Caucus on 3rd February 2025 and its subsequent briefings”.

“The Party hereby reiterates its position that it stands with its eighty-eight (88) gallant Hon. Members to address all forms of repression and unfairness in the application of the rules governing Parliament and the Nation.”

The NPP’s stance highlights the ongoing tensions within Ghana’s Parliament and the party’s determination to uphold democratic principles and ensure accountability.
