Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has shed light on the demanding nature of his role in assigning Members of Parliament to the various parliamentary committees.
He explained that the selection process is thorough and involves careful consideration to ensure effective representation and performance across all committees. “Every member, constitutionally belongs to a minimum of two committees. A standing committee as we call it and a select committee.”
However, Dafeamekpor noted that the process is often complicated by legislators’ preferences, which are influenced by the perceived benefits of certain committees.
“Committee selection is another herculean task because for some reason, members think that some committees work are more profitable than others…” he stated.
He added that navigating such expectations requires strong leadership and open dialogue. According to him, committee selection is just one of many challenges that are managed through strategic communication and cooperation among parliamentary leadership.
