The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has expressed concern over the presence of military personnel in Akwatia ahead of the upcoming by-election.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has assured the party of adequate security with the deployment of 5,000 well-prepared police officers, making military involvement unnecessary.
He stressed that while the IGP has the mandate to request military support if needed, soldiers have been seen in Akwatia without official orders. Nana B alleged that even the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was unaware of their deployment.
He also dismissed claims that the soldiers were on anti-galamsey duties, insisting they were not legitimately assigned.
“These are not proper soldiers, but individuals in military uniforms,” he argued.
Nana B emphasized that Ghana needs peace during the polls and maintained that the police service is capable of providing sufficient security without military interference.
