The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully prevented a planned highway robbery along the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Highway, resulting in the deaths of three suspected armed robbers.
The suspects, identified as Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila (also known as Tijani), were gunned down on December 24, 2025, after opening fire on police officers.
The police recovered two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, one unbranded pistol, twenty-five live cartridges, and six spent cartridges from the scene.
The suspects were linked to multiple robberies, including the Jacobu airport robbery, highway robberies along the Manso stretch, and attacks on gold buyers.
A follow-up operation on December 26, 2025, led to the recovery of additional weapons, including an AK47 assault rifle and an MG3 rifle, hidden in a palm plantation near Manso Nkwanta. The police are working to trace the sources of the weapons and arrest accomplices currently at large.
The operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to combating armed robbery and ensuring public safety in the Ashanti Region.
